Our Story
In 2021, like most folks, I decided to double down on gardening. Back then, I was running a social media account for a local greenhouse and each season I was surprised by how many questions people would ask about companion planting, better yields and soil health.
I decided to try my hand at seed starting and planned out a garden that included vegetables and flowers with the goal to simply learn all that I could. My vegetable harvest was great and it brought so much joy to be able to fill my house with flowers and share them with my family and friends.
And so, I set out to learn even more about flower farming. In the winter of 2022, I invested in the Floret Farm flower course and took advantage of her expertise (which is a lot!). I made notes, planned out garden options, priced out basic tools and equipment and learned as much as I could about soil health that was as specific to Manitoba as possible.
My desire to enter the world of cut flower farming stems from my two daughters. As a mom for the last six years, I have spent so much time and energy finding ways to work for my family that left me away from them.
I want my daughters to see the beautiful transformation that a flower brings. Like seeds, we start small, and God brings about small and great transformations and like flowers we grow and bloom under so many circumstances and in different environments. I want them to know the value of hard work and see the beauty in the small and the great. I want them to experience growth right along the plants that we’re growing and caring for. Mostly, I want them to know that the smallest, simplest gestures and thoughts are often the most important to someone, because we’re all walking the same road and there are many ways we can walk along side each other.
So, welcome to Harrison Acres, where you’ll find care, beauty, and thoughtfulness. I hope you’ll grow along side us too.
